Well, I also thought my energy consumption was coming from the air conditioning or the refrigerator until I discovered the problem was deeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you feel like your bill is only increasing, <strong>even without changing your habits<\/strong>, stay with me here and I&#039;ll tell you <strong>How I identified the real culprits and started saving for real<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When I realized something was wrong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, let me tell you how it all started. I always had a similar routine: quick shower, lights off when leaving the room, new, energy-efficient refrigerator... Even so, the bill was high. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I thought it was normal. But one day, while organizing my old bills, I saw an increase. <strong>of almost 40% in just six months<\/strong>, even using the same devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Consequently<\/strong>, I decided to investigate. I called the distributor, did a lot of research, and started testing some appliances in the house. And then came the surprise: <strong>was a set of little invisible villains<\/strong>, which alone seem harmless, <strong>but together they weigh on your pocket at the end of the month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The hidden villains of energy consumption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As harmless as they may seem<\/strong>, some appliances consume energy even when they are turned off.<br>In other words: <strong>they suck energy just by being plugged in<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are the biggest culprits I found here at home:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cell phone and notebook chargers<\/strong> (even without the device plugged in)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cable TV Set-Top Boxes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Microwave with clock on<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Modem and router connected 24 hours a day<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>TVs in standby mode<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LED speakers<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Power strips always on<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#039;s why, <strong>unplug these items or use smart plugs<\/strong> made a huge difference in my account. <strong>That way<\/strong>, I managed to reduce almost R$ 40 in the first month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understand what \u201cphantom consumption\u201d is<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever heard of this term? <strong>Phantom consumption<\/strong> is the electrical energy used by appliances even when they appear to be turned off.<br>I.e, <strong>that lit LED or digital clock continues to draw power from the grid<\/strong>, even if you are not using the device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Want to see an example?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data from Aneel, a microwave with a clock can consume up to <strong>25 kWh per year just to keep the display on<\/strong>. This gives <strong>almost R$ 30 per year<\/strong>And we&#039;re talking about ONE single device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now imagine adding that to all the others I mentioned above\u2026 <strong>Indeed, it is easy to understand why the bill goes up without any apparent explanation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to save money without becoming a hostage to the dark<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You don&#039;t need to go around pulling wires all over the house. <strong>Savings start with small habits.<\/strong> Here are the ones that worked for me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unplug what is not in use<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, after I started unplugging the charger when I wasn&#039;t charging anything, I saw a difference in consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use rulers with an on\/off switch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To make things easier, these strips allow you to turn off multiple devices at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install smart plugs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You program when the device turns on or off.<br>By the way, this is great for the modem or router, which can be turned off at night, <strong>in case you don&#039;t need internet while you sleep<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Have your electric shower checked<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It represents up to 30% of household consumption!<br><strong>Therefore, simple adjustments such as shorter showers or changing the heating element help a lot.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tools and apps that helped me<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to better control my consumption, I started using some tools and I highly recommend them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Distributor app<\/strong>: I can monitor consumption in real time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Individual consumption meter (wattmeter)<\/strong>: I plug in the device and see exactly how much it consumes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LED lamps with timer<\/strong>: they turn off by themselves and save a lot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These changes not only brought savings, <strong>as they also gave me total control over what consumes most in the house<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use the Distributor&#039;s App and Have Control in the Palm of Your Hand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is one thing that changed the way I manage my electricity bill, it was <strong>use the energy distributor&#039;s own app<\/strong>.
